  • Stefanos appears to be much devoted to tennis than Zverev. He reminds of a young Djokovic in terms of movement. Also the Greek has showed a capacity very few (except Djokovic and Thiem possess), to anticipate and solve Nadal's dangerous forhands,to execute a devastating returns, therewith decoding him on clay. I think there's a wrong perception that Nadal isn't playing well on clay this season,it is a sheer fact that the others also raised the form.Fognini,Thiem and Tsitsipas are a proof of that.Nadal didn't play that well only at Monte Carlo. Well,a wear and tear over years could be a factor that he unexpectedly hasn't won a tourmmament on clay yet.

  • Both Tsitsipas and Thiem have a backhand Federer never had. Not the slice, of course, (which may well be the game's most underrated shot), but the hit-through backhand. It's no surprise that both their backswings are bigger than Federer's who could never generate as much speed as these two do. Of course, it helps that Nadal isn't in his early 20s and seems to be lacking confidence... Because, for one thing, *that* Nadal would have had the weight of shot required to make even Thiem's and Tsitsi's backhands get only as far as mid-court. For another, his inside-out forehand would have firing *almost all the time* . And finally, he would have been *everywhere* .

I think he has more energy to spend, you can see the difference between Rafa, Fed and Nole that all have around 30 years and more and someone on his prime like Stefanos.

I will be very surprised if he do not win multiple Slams, a hot candidate on all four surfaces. Sad tough to see all the negative comments about Nadal here. He is the best sportsman of modern time. Forehand does some amount of damage great net play big serving ball toss a bit wayward at times backhand also once they are refined he’s going to dominate.

  • Nadal camp... 'Listen, it may be a good idea to lose this match and avoid playing Novak right now... if you were to lose to Novak now you risk giving him the confidence to also defeat you at FO.... you guys haven't played on clay in a while.. let him have to familarize himself to your game at FO.. don't give him the advantage of it now.. your ultimate goal is FO.. you've won here 11 times, it's not a big deal.. let's focus on FO for another grand slam title.. let Stefanos go thru.... play him tuff though so it looks like you gave your all'.😁... (swallow a little pride to reach the true goal.. makes sense to me)

    • If that's the strategy, it's by far the dumbest. He could've avoided Novak in 2014... but chose to take an L in Rome leading up to RG. Forget about Nole. At this particular moment, Nadal can't defeat Thiem, Fognini or Stefanos. I think Roger can even kick his ass.

    • @Caglar Cokadar No... but he can't win it. Too many deadly challengers. Novak Djokovic is zooming in for the final kill. He should just grind it out like he always does... and lose, skip Wimbledon, try the USO and then retire. He can't keep playing like this. Watch his old videos and I dare u, not to get depressed about his new reality.

  • What a gutsy play by Tsitsipas. He matched Nadal's physicality and played a game of agression and more importantly found the lines in crunch situations. I think Nadal looked exhausted in Third set and even in five setter Tsitsipas would have overhauled Nadal. Now what ails Nadal? I think injury took out momentum and match time. Still he is getting better. French open may prove to be different proposition as the wind is lesser and ball doesn't bounce as much. But still I think French open is "open" with no clear cut favourite. At least 5 to 6 people have chance to win.

But this season he is making so many errors that it's hard to imagine he can win the coming French Open. I hope I'm wrong, but Tsitsipas was not playing his best tennis here and so Nadal should have been able to win.
